The Tribal TAB program is very excited to work in collaboration with the Cherokee Nation on the first workshop, gathering, and site visit for the Tribal Brownfields Knowledge Circle. Tribal TAB is a collaborative partnership between Kansas State University (KSU), the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP), and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC).
During this three-day event we will get a deep dive into the history, culture, and current approaches of the Cherokee Nation’s brownfield program as well as hear from other local Oklahoma Tribes about some of the great work they are doing. On Wednesday, we will visit some of Cherokee Nation’s active and completed brownfields sites and learn how their cultural programs are intricately related to their brownfield work. We will gather together for a Talking Circle at the end of our time together for sharing and reflection on what we have seen, heard, and learned.
In order to create a space where we can foster meaningful discussion, attendance will be limited and priority will be given to staff that have worked with or collaborated with Tribal brownfields programs. If you are interested in attending please complete the form below. Applications are due by Wednesday, February 11, 2026 and will be limited to two employees per Tribe/organization. Completing this application does not guarantee acceptance. A notice of confirmation and additional course details will be sent to those who are selected to participate. If you are selected, we will be meeting on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and you should plan for your travel days to be outside of this time. Although the Workshop and site visit are completely free, attendees are responsible for their own travel expenses.
Please contact Jennifer Clancey (JMClancey@ksu.edu) or Julie Meikowski (Julie.Meikowski@nau.edu) with any questions.
