Climate Resilience & Superfund Presentation and Discussion on September 15

Join the Tribal Superfund Working Group for a virtual presentation and discussion on Climate Resilience and Superfund on September 15, at 11am-12:30pm PDT. Carlos Pachon, with US EPA’s Superfund program, will discuss their efforts to ensure future climate trends and vulnerabilities are taken into account for Superfund sites. Remedies at Superfund sites are already designed to maintain protectiveness under modern climate conditions, but in June of this year US EPA’s Superfund program issued a memo on Consideration of Climate Resilience in the Superfund Cleanup Process, which highlights the importance of ensuring that the resilience of the remedy’s protectiveness is specifically evaluated using future climate trends. US EPA now offers climate vulnerability assessments as part of the Optimization Program, targeting sites with remedies that may not have incorporated future climate data, or sites requiring documentation of remedy resilience to address community or other site stakeholder concerns. Join Carlos Pachon and the Tribal Superfund Working Group using the GoToMeeting link below or contact Todd.Barnell@nau.edu for more information.
